Sacraments
Baptism
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.
The Catholic Church baptizes at any age, infants through adults, though the requirements vary based on the age of the person to be baptized. For baptism requirements or to schedule a baptism, contact the Parish Office at 913-557-2067. If this is your first child being baptized you will need to have a baptismal prep class.
Eucharist
The Eucharist is the heart of the Christian life. Catholics fully participate by receiving Holy Communion, which should be done devoutly and frequently. To receive, one should be free of grave sin and have fasted for one hour.
First Communion for Children
Children typically receive First Communion in 2nd grade. Parish school students receive formation in school, while public and homeschool students attend religious education classes on Sundays from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Parents must complete the First Communion Information Form.
First Communion for Adults
Baptized adults not in the OCIA process who wish to receive First Communion should schedule a meeting with Fr. Joe. Contact.
Confirmation
Confirmation completes baptism by strengthening our faith and empowering us to witness Christ. It includes a renewal of baptismal promises, making us full members of the Church.
In our diocese, Confirmation typically occurs in 8th grade, with preparation beginning in 7th grade. Parish school students receive formation in school, while public and homeschool students attend Sunday classes.
Adults not in the RCIA process can complete a 5-6 week class in the Spring, culminating in Confirmation at Pentecost. For more information, contact the Church Office.
Reconciliation
Reconciliation is the sacrament of forgiveness, restoring our relationship with God and the Church.
First Reconciliation typically takes place in 2nd grade, with parish school students receiving formation in school and public/homeschool students in religious education classes.
Baptized adults not in the RCIA process should arrange their first reconciliation with the parish pastor.
Confessions are available on Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:30 PM or by appointment—call the office to schedule.
Anointing of the Sick
Anointing of the Sick brings comfort and strength to those who are seriously ill, physically or mentally. It is available for any illness, before surgeries (age 7+), and if a condition worsens. To arrange an anointing, contact the Parish Office.
Marriage
Holy Matrimony is a sacred covenant reflecting Christ’s love for the Church. The Archdiocese requires six months of preparation, including marriage preparation classes and spirituality sessions. To plan a wedding, contact the parish office at (913) 533-2464 to check dates and schedule an initial meeting with Fr. Joe.
